Did it work?

Before you do another event, email, hire someone else, or change up your structure, ask that question.

Ideas are easy. But they're incomplete by themselves. Yet so many organizations are driven by ideators and so few leverage evaluators. But these aren't personality traits, they're disciplines. Just throwing out idea and hoping something works isn't a strategy, it's a deflection from discipline.

1) Define the purpose and measurement of success of your event, hire, email, product, etc...

2) Do the thing.

3) Ask "Did that [thing] work?"

If "it's cool" or "we just like it" is the point, ok. Then your expectation after the event should not be tied to a number, a return on investment, or any sort of growth. And again, that's ok.
But do YOU think that's ok?

A few quick hits on building stronger connections that benefit you and others. I'm asked about these more often than I ever thought I would be so I'll put this teaser list here and work up a video for you in a future email.

  1. If you have someone's number, use it. It's amazing to me how many people will ask for a number or email but never use it.
  2. Respond to any text you get within the hour. Even a thumbs up, "got it", or "Busy, talk later" validates the other person and shows you can be present. But remember that 24+ hours of silence still screams something to them. Try that with your spouse - go quiet for 24 hours and see how that pans out. I bet "just got busy" won't work on her.
  3. Texting unsolicited and simple encouragement will do more for your relationships than long form requests and hyperbole. "Hey, thought of you just now. Really appreciate your insight in the meeting last week." That right there is a game changer. Do more of that! And when I say "encouragement", a simple mention will suffice. ALL people love to know they were on someone else's mind.
