SM: Good at the Wrong Thing? Read This.
May 03, 2025Hey friend,
I can fly planes.
Legitimately—I went to flight school. I was good at it. Could’ve been a successful airline pilot.
But I wasn’t built for cockpits.
I was built to challenge conventional thinking in the Church and help leaders see what others don’t.
I can coach soccer and football. And I’d probably be great at it—strategy, motivation, development.
But that’s not the team I’m here to lead.
I’m here to coach a new generation of church planters and ministry pioneers.
I know people who can make a ton of money in business.
But that doesn’t mean they should.
Some of them were born to disrupt systems, elevate people, or innovate quietly behind the scenes. That calling might not come with a massive salary or public applause, but it matters more.
Even in ministry, I’ve watched people do what they can do—run programs, plan services, lead teams—while ignoring the ache that they’re supposed to bring their brilliance into the secular marketplace, or take on something far riskier but more true.
Here’s the pattern:
Many people are stuck doing what they can do instead of what they must do.
And they’re successful. That’s the tricky part. What they're doing now isn't necessarily bad or even draining. But that doesn't mean it's the thing they MUST do.
Another way to say this is: Your future can be sabotaged by your own success.
If that hits a little too close to home, it should.
It did for me too.
And it’s why I now facilitate something called One Life—a two-day, personal journey designed to help you unearth what you were actually made to do.
We don’t just talk about passion or personality.
We excavate purpose.
We chase clarity.
And we name the must so you can stop hiding behind the can.
This isn’t hype. It’s work. But it’s the most liberating work you’ll ever do.
It changed the trajectory of my life.
And I’ve watched it do the same for pastors, creatives, business leaders, parents, and founders who were stuck in “pretty good” lives instead of pursuing the one they were built for.
👉 If you’re ready to get clear on your must, learn more or sign up here.
You’ve got One Life.
Don’t waste it being good at the wrong thing.
