“Have you ever wondered about church compensation?

How should church staff be paid? Lead Pastors?

Maybe you’re someone who’s told a young staff member they need to be happy with what they make. You’ve probably secretly wondered what the others make at all those “big” churches out there. You’ve also probably just resigned yourself to the idea that talking about compensation is taboo.

This is such an important topic that I believe every single church staff member needs to have in their hands and read it. What you're worth and what the "going rate" is are very different things. You have tremendous value. Period!

Leadership is more art than science.

Because every person is unique including those of us who think we have things dialed in.

Of course we don't but that assumption is yet another variable - another rogue brush stroke in the painting - that both distracts from what we think we are aiming at and simultaneously adds flavor to what inevitably will be.

There's no formula, just tools. You can copy a Monet painting but that won't make you Monet. You can copy someone else's leadership activity but that won't make you that particular leader.

You have to embrace the messiness, effort, and focus required to create what you want and even be content that is comes out maybe 80% of what you intended.

With that said, I'm an artist and a builder. And this list reflects an artist's mindset towards leadership.

I Want It

Ownership of any kind takes effort.

The burden of ownership is far better than the absence of ownership. I'd rather struggle with something of value than live a life void of any substantive weight.
